Traditional almirahs, big and small, were a staple in most Indian households. They sometimes stored salt and grain in the kitchen, or saris, kantha quilts and other textiles in the bedroom. Uncovered in Rajasthan, this 80-year-old almirah was from a rural haveli of the region and may have been used to store seasonal grain and a collection of fragrant spices. It has been crafted from solid teak, fitted with delicate glass panels and polished in a natural wax to enhance the bright, warm tones in the timber.
